Reaching Shimla from Delhi
The time was suddenly when i decided to meet my life as i am in LDR and just put purse in my jeans and went for Delhi ISBT, its easy to reach there by delhi metro that drops you just at its terminal, so walking lonely i entered ISBT around 10 pm on chilly winter night in the month of january, equiring about where to find bus to shimla i reached there, now there are nice options to reach shimla by bus:
1. Catch a bus from mandi house (semi-deluxe/ac deluxe) it will cost from RS. 500 to Rs. 800 and takes 8hrs to reach shimla bus stand.
2. Roadways bus thats not too bad and nicest option coz we are on tight budget here. It takes 10 hrs to reach shimla and costs just Rs. 221-250 with a seat number so you get a seat assured from there.
3. Deluxe bus to shimla with pushback seats costing Rs. 360 thats nice for comfortable ride.
As roadways bus had already left i took the deluxe bus which i realised was nice and cozy and thanked that i missed the roadways. I took around 9-10hrs and i reached shimla watching splendid and scenic views of parwanoo, solan and many more beautiful places on the way starting from Kalka.
Cheap Accomodation:
Reaching Shimla bus stand i was flocked by hotel persons pulling your luggage and explaining the luxuries of thier hotels, but as i am a true Delhiite i opted to be a total nomad and start searching the cheapest and best option. One can find number of hotels along the road behind main bus stand, enquired for hotels, dharamsalas and gurudwara sahib finding a cozy room as i was shivering in cold. Forget Dharamsalas they wont give you rooms, you can count on gurudwara sahib thats just near local bus stand and they will be very helpful too, they charge Rs 200 for a day 12pm check-in ans next day 12 p.m. check-out. Its a nice option but you have to be i certain limits that you should respect as its a place of worship. So moving ahead searched more rooms, nearby bus stand is hotel vikrant giving you option of single room, double room and dorm sharing a single room with 6 beds - its nice if you want to have a nice sleep n rest , bathing n all and then move on for sight seeing,
single room: Rs210-270
double room: rs 300- above
dorm: rs 100
One can find cheap hotels at:
- Lakkar Bazar
- Victory Tunnel
- Near Bus Stand
- Youth Hostel, YMCA Hostel
i found out all were nearby these rates so why go for single room when you can rest on double bed watch cable tv and get attached bathroom for the price just above that of single. Just nearby i went for Hotel Kohinoor it cost me Rs.275 for double bed room attached bathroom, cable tv, 2 quilts which i quickly entered into.
After getting a room its upto you as till now you can summarize:
Deluxe Bus Fare: Rs.360
Double bedroom: Rs.275
Returning bus fare(roadways) : Rs.225
Totalling Rs. 860 which can be lowered very much by going for dorms and boarding roadways buses.
So you can manage 2 days in Shimla for Rs. 1000-1500 if you are alone but on sharing with friends you can pool evrything from rooms to meals.
- TIPS
Board a bus after 10-11 pm from ISBT Delhi you will reach Shimla around 8am next day spend some time enquiring and tea n b'fast, u can then get a room at 9-10 a.m. without paying extra for another day as check-in timings are 12 p.m.
